I photographed the 5 Pointz Graffiti in Long Island City, New York, in 2013, the day before it was white washed by the building owner. This sight was caught up in court over heritage conservation issues. In the end there was a financial impact for the owner. Here is a link to a Maria Cramer article from the New York Times "Artist's Have Final Victory In a Case of Destroyed Graffiti." Of note, PS1 opened nearby, using this street art as a draw. This was just one example of the financial impact of the arts existence.
